The latest on the Constitution Party’s fight for ballot access

By DOUG IBENDAHL • September 7, 2010

The Constitution Party’s slate of seven statewide candidates is still alive and kicking. This morning we had the first hearing in Cook County Circuit Court in response to our request for Judicial Review filed last week. Today was mostly just a status call for scheduling. The Illinois Board of Elections is obligated to provide a copy of the record from the agency proceeding to the court and that’s still in progress. It’s a very large record after close to three months of Pat Brady’s hired guns throwing everything they could at these conservative candidates seeking ballot access.
It’s mostly all being done on behalf of that Democrat in Republican clothing, Mark Kirk. And to a lesser extent Judy Baar Topinka is worried about Republicans having more ballot choice. But in any case it’s all the same little group giving Pat Brady his marching orders and directing him to funnel the Illinois Republican Party’s resources towards doing whatever is necessary to kick conservatives off the ballot.

We also know for a fact Bill Brady’s campaign sent paid staff to assist the Illinois Republican Party with its 11 petition challenges (hitting 23 candidates in total) this summer. That’s disappointing coming from a guy who bills himself as a conservative. And if that’s not a big deal – the obvious question is why then did the Brady Bunch and their handlers originally try to hide it all?

The substantive hearing before Judge Susan Gillis is scheduled for September 21st at 10:30 AM in courtroom 1706 in Chicago’s Daley Center. That’s where argument from both sides will be heard.
