DEBATE SCHEDULED BETWEEN CANDIDATES FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE 72nd DISTRICT
Discussion to center on economic issues facing the District
ROCK ISLAND, IL-- The campaign office of Mark Lioen (lee-OHN), Republican candidate for Illinois House from the 72nd District, announced today that they have successfully negotiated a debate with the campaign office of Pat Verschoore (D), the incumbent in the race.

"We are proud to have scheduled the first real debate for anycandidates for the 2010 election season here in the Quad City area," said Bill Bloom, campaign manager for Mark Lioen for State House.
"Our office and Pat's office have agreed to a debate on Thursday October 14th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, at Olin Auditorium on the campus of Augustana College, Rock Island. Moderator for the October 14th debate will be Dr. Dave Dehnel, senior faculty member of the Political Science Department at Augustana College.

"This will be a live debate to which the public is very definitely invited," said Lioen.

Each candidate will have three minutes for an opening statement and three minutes to close. In between, the moderator will ask six questions of each candidate, drawn up by members of the Augustana Politics Club and centering entirely on Illinois' economic and business climate.

"We hope to see as many interested voters as we can," Lioen said, "to hear where both candidates for representative from the 72nd District stand. It's our pleasure to be able to share with the people in this."

The 72nd Illinois District lies roughly west of 33rd street in Moline and west of Route 150 in Rural Rock Island County and Mercer County. Rep. Verschoore has represented it since being appointed to the seat in 2003, and is seeking his 4th term.

Mark Lioen is a Quad Cities native who graduated from the London School of Economics and worked for John Deere Harvester before returning to Rock Island. Mark is a Republican running for State Representative in the IL 72nd District. He is running on a platform of fiscal responsibility, accountability, and jobs that will restore prosperity back to Illinois. Mark Lioen has signed on with the Give Ten Back initative, vowing to accept a 10% pay cut when elected.
