These are difficult times in the state of Illinois. The Governor in his state budget address cut $93 million in funding for transportation reimbursement. The Mercer County School District had projected $430,000 in transportation reimbursement from the state---they will not get that amount this year. This leaves another large hole in their budget.
Governor Quinn also mentioned that he would like to consolidate the states 868 school districts down to 300. If this was done it would be mandatory and the state would draw up the map of your school district. More local control would be lost.
