The next meeting for LiberTEA Patriots, a non-partisan group of concerned citizens, is Aug 20th, 6:45 pm at Happy Joe’s Pizza in Aledo. The special topic will be on the danger of GMOs (genetically modified organism). Valid studies done in other countries have proven that the claims by Monsanto that they are safe for consumption are false. Toxins have been found remaining in GMO corn and have also been found in the bloodstream of humans after consumption. The results of some of these studies and their potential effects upon us will be reviewed and discussed at this meeting.

It has been reported by Natural News that the Kansas GMO rice has inserted human genes. GeneWatch UK, which monitors new GM foods, described it as “very disturbing”. Researcher Becky Price warned: “There are huge, huge health risks and people should rightly be concerned about this.”

Friends of the Earth campaigner Clare Oxborrow said: “Using food crops and fields as glorified drug factories is a very worrying development. “If these pharmaceutical crops end up on consumers’ plates, the consequences for our health could be devastating.”

Recently received from FARFA (Farmers and Ranchers Freedom Association) is the following alert on the Agriculture Bill that will soon be coming up for a vote in Congress:

On the heels of the "Monsanto rider" inserted into the House Agriculture Appropriations Bill a few weeks ago, the Biotech industry managed to insert several more damaging provisions into the House version of the Farm Bill.

Together, these GMO industry-promoting provisions override judicial review of GMO crops found to have been approved illegally, gut any real review by the USDA of new GMO crops, and create a forced backdoor approval of "Agent Orange" corn and other currently pending GMO crops. There is even a provision to establish, for the first time, a policy recognizing "allowable" levels of GMO contamination in our food.

If passed, these riders would undermine the few laws that are currently in place to protect farmers' rights and our health from the many adverse impacts of GMO crops. These provisions represent a new level of corporate control, placing the GMO industry's profits above the law.

The House of Representatives is not expected to vote on either the Agricultural Appropriations bill or the Farm Bill before they leave for the August recess. Nonetheless, the Representatives and their staff are developing their positions on these issues right now - so we need to speak up while there's time to influence their decisions.

The main organizers of LiberTEA Patriots feel this is a very urgent issue that needs to be addressed. So, we will be making this our special topic in the upcoming August meeting. In the meantime, we’d like to encourage all to call Congressman Schilling to express concerns about these very dangerous practices of tampering with our food and allowing unchecked contamination of healthy non-GMO crops: Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-CD 17) Phone 202-225-5905.

LiberTEA Patriots is a non-partisan, non-profit group of concerned citizens. We hope to see more locals join us in our fight for liberty and protecting the Constitution. For more information on the group, please contact Ralyn Speerly Schraceo at 217-492-1163 or ralyn@illinoislibertea.com.
