Village of Matherville, Illinois is located approximately 4.5 miles north of Viola, Illinois - View Map.

One of the first settlers of the Village of Matherville was Hopkins Boone, nephew of the famous Daniel Boone. The town was named for George Mather, a salesman who gave a discount on materials for the railroad to be put through in exchange for the town being named for him. Matherville was first incorporated as Mather, then later changed to Matherville.
