Business News : CPSIA Law Update - Small Steps at improvement
Posted by Ralyn on 2009/1/9 1:30:00 (2513 reads) News by the same author

We have made some small steps in getting Congress to make some minor ammendments - so please keep contacting them!

I do have some good news for those of you that want to have a garage sale. Our efforts have gotten them to make an exemption for "used" children's products, as long as the items are not recall items.

For Crafters - we're still struggling, but there were a few exceptions made for a handful of natural products used, so we are making progress. But baby booties will still be illegal unless they are made with all natural undyed yarn:

  • Precious Gem stones - diamonds, saphires, rubies, emeralds

  • Certain semi-precious gemstones

  • Natural or cultured pearls

  • Wood

  • Natural Fibers including cotton, silk, wool, hemp, flax, linen

  • Other natural materials including coral, amber, feathers, fur, & untreated leather

  • Certain metal alloys: surgical steal

  • Precious metals: gold (at least 10K), sterling silver (at least 925/1000), platinum, paladium, rhodium, osmium, iridium, ruthenium

  • The above precious metals does not, however, extend to non-steel or non-precious metals such as solder or base metals in electroplate, clad, or clad or fill applications (so still worthless in my opinion).

    Lead Testing Ammendment

Keep contacting our Congressment & the CPSC - it is helping!
